Why rest days matter (and what they look like)

Muscle is built when you rest, not when you lift. Here is why recovery days are part of a good plan, and what an active recovery day looks like.

You do not build muscle in the gym — you build it when you rest, as your body repairs the tissue training broke down. Rest days are not wasted days. They are the days your progress actually happens.

What active recovery looks like

On rest days you do not need to do nothing — walking, gentle stretching, a swim, or mobility work all help blood flow and recovery without adding training stress. The point is to move, not to train.

Listen to your body

If you feel run down or a joint aches, an extra rest day is a choice, not a failure. Pushing through fatigue is how plans stop. Good plans schedule recovery in, so you do not have to figure it out on the fly.

The workout plans here include their rest days, so recovery is built in from day one.
